Critical Friends Forever

Critical Friends Forever article response - with my Critical Forever Friend, Shawnsy.

1. A cf helps to re-frame the problem or work, whatever it may be, to help to clarify ideas. This new lens helps them gain perspective and clarify purpose, as well as be a gauge for success.

2. perspective, whether you are conveying what you think you are accurately, and a low-pressure critique - not judgmental, not graded- trust and common purpose are established.

3. It sounds a lot like what I have them do for peer-reviewing essays - low-pressure feedback that is broad enough to allow for some leeway as far as what's being discussed. I have no questions about it!

4. Know the assignment and its purpose, as well as the author's purpose; academic honesty/trustworthiness; common purpose / effort / engagement must be shared between cf's; ability to focus on positive aspects (of whatever the assignment is) as well as areas for improvement.

5. Focusing only on the essential parts of the assignment for the grading period; for example, ignoring the grammatical parts of an essay that aren't under direct instruction and part of the assignment to be graded. That is a challenge.
